Matt McLean began karting at the age of 7, mainly competing in club-level competition until he was old enough to get a job and contribute funds towards his racing. As he began competing at a higher level, he quickly established himself throughout the Australian Karting fraternity as a naturally gifted star in Motorsport.

Entering his first year in National level racing in 2015, McLean went on to win the first ever round of the newly introduced Championship style format on debut in the Senior category, ending the season in 4th place.

The following year McLean went on to win the 2016 Australian Kart Championship, finishing the next two seasons in 2nd and 1st respectively and has been lucky enough to represent Australia at the World Final where he qualified 1st back in 2017. McLean now holds one of the highest amounts of individual race wins in the Australian Kart Championship history.

At the end of 2018, McLean was fortunate enough to partner with Supercar driver James Golding in an endurance race. After 4 hours, they crossed the line in 1st in a field stacked with Bathurst 1000 champions like Steve Richards and Chaz Mostert, other Supercar drivers Cameron Waters, Michael Caruso, Anton De Pasquale, Nick Percat and André Heimgartner, as well as the best karters in Aus. The next week, Matthew received an offer to race a Supercar in the Super3 Series.

After a few strong runs in Super3, McLean moved up to the Super2 Series, where he quickly proved himself as a star of the future when he put his car on the front row in the first ever session of the season for his debut with Eggleston Motorsport, continuing on to win majority of the awards the category has to offer in his first season.
